Welcome to the Green Manor, a Union City landmark steeped in history and Southern charm. The mansion was once home to Union City's first mayor, Drewry Carmichael, who sold the property to Dr. Albert J. Green in 1915 when he fell on hard financial times. The property has remained in the Green family ever since and they have operated the Historic Green Manor Restaurant in the home since 1990.
In our interview with Linda Johnson, a long-time employee of the Historic Green Manor Restaurant, we’re diving into a piece of the home's history that has intrigued patrons and paranormal investigators alike. Join us as we explore the story of Florence Westbrook—Drewry’s Carmichael's sister-in-law, who is believed to have returned in spirit after her tragic death on the property.
There have been many reported sightings of Florence Westbrook and strange happenings at the Green Manor from staff and patrons throughout the years. The Georgia Ghost Society, a paranormal investigation team, visited Green Manor in 2007 to evaluate these eerie reports. They deployed environmental sensors to test temperature, magnetic frequencies, and motion within the mansion, ultimately deeming the Green Manor “haunted.” Most remarkably, they found plastic picture buttons, installed to stabilize wall frames, melted and dripping onto the wallpaper—a detail that still mystifies Green Manor’s team.
Despite its haunted reputation, the Green Manor remains a celebrated dining spot. Union City Mayor Vince Williams even refers to it as “a landmark in our city that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.” Open for lunch Monday through Friday and on Sundays (Saturdays are reserved for special events), Green Manor welcomes diners with a blend of history, mystery, and award-winning fried chicken. Whether you come for the food, the history, or the ghostly tales, Green Manor has something unique for every visitor.
