Historical Attractions

Explore the complex heritage of the ATL firsthand.

It doesn’t take a visionary to see that what starts in Atlanta can impact the rest of the world in a big way. Just passing through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, you’ll find yourself recognizing many of our hometown heroes, such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Representative John R. Lewis and President Jimmy Carter. When you walk the streets of the ATL Airport District, you are following in the footsteps of giants—and of unsung heroes.

To help you follow in those footsteps in a more direct and literal sense, we’ve compiled some of the most important historic grounds and memorials throughout the District and beyond. From antebellum churches, cemeteries, farmhouses and mansions to humble but world-changing Civil Rights landmarks, these inspiring sites will put you in touch with bygone eras and help you make sense of the world we live in today.

If you’re interested in self-guided history tours that start and end in the District, check out our Prefab Plans.
