Mid-September marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, when we celebrate the art, culture, food, and overall contributions of the Hispanic and Latine communities. In the ATL Airport District, we know that diversity is one of our most valuable assets, and as home to the most traveled & efficient airport in the world, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, we consider it part of our DNA to welcome folks from across the globe to our neighborhood all year long. And what’s Southern hospitality without a good meal? Read on to learn about the District’s favorite locally owned Hispanic and Latine restaurants and where to spend your next Taco Tuesday.
Chilo's Taquería
📍 897 Virginia Ave, Hapeville, GA 30354
Once a favorite local food truck, Chilo’s Taquería now has its own storefront in Hapeville. Favorite menu items include their authentic birria tacos, fusion birria ramen, juicy asada torta (steak sandwich), and sweet creamy horchata. Their loyal customer base says that besides the delicious food, it's the fast, friendly service and affordable prices that keep them coming back for more.
Don Chon Taquería
📍 616 S Central Ave, Hapeville, GA 30354
Their entire menu is printed en español, so that should tell you something about the genuine Mexican flavors at Don Chon. From breakfast to dessert, they have you covered with delicious items no matter what time you order (as late as 2AM on weekends!), like huevos rancheros, fresh ceviches, and all natural aguas frescas. Whether you stop in for a sit-down meal or catch their food truck at a private party or community event, Don Chon invites you to be part of la familia.
Gabby’s Paletería y Taquería
📍 N Central Ave, Ste 415, Hapeville, GA 30354
Gabby’s is known not only for their delicious Mexican meals - they’re also a Hapeville hot spot for a cool treat. Paleta translates literally to “small stick." Similar to a popsicle, paletas stand out by being a healthier dessert made with all natural ingredients and fresh fruit like strawberry (fresa) or mango. They've got plenty of ice cream, milkshakes, and other frozen drinks (like licuachela, a popular fruity, spicy, alcoholic street food-style beverage) so stop by and treat yourself to something sweet after your meal - or anytime!
La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant

This family-owned restaurant has been serving Southside Atlanta customers for over 50 years. They have an impressive menu full of traditional Latin dishes, street tacos, margaritas, and even vegan and vegetarian options. They pride themselves on evolving and transforming their menu to best serve their neighborhood. La Fiesta can even bring the party to you! With just 48 hours notice, they can prepare to-go party trays for any event – complete with take-home margarita mix (just add tequila)!
Mamí’s La Cubana
📍 579 N Central Ave, Hapeville, GA 30354
Mamí’s is one of Hapeville’s hidden gems, but we’re happy to let you in on where to find the best Cuban sandwich in Georgia. Customers rave about the authenticity of the food and the Cuban coffee at this low-key restaurant. The dining room is small, but the portion sizes leave no room for elbow room. Their flavorful Ropa Vieja, fried sweet plantains, and handmade empanadas are just a few favorites and are prepared with love by the owners.
Sombreros Mexican Cantina
📍 411 N Central Ave, Hapeville, GA 30354
Looking for a casual spot with a familiar feel? If you live in Hapeville, chances are you’re already a regular at Sombreros. Tía Rosie’s Kitchen
📍 3266 Dogwood Drive Ste B, Hapeville, Georgia 30354
Tu tía wouldn’t let you skip the most important meal of the day, and neither will Tía Rosie’s. Zokalo Mexicantina
📍 5058 Old National Hwy, College Park, GA 30349
The newly rebranded Zokalo Mexicantina in College Park isn’t just a place to eat, it’s an experience - tableside pyrotechnic presentations, Insta-worthy decor inspired by Mexican culture, and yes, robot servers (as well as plenty of good old-fashioned friendly human waitstaff). It’s the same family-owned, authentic Mexican flavors, but with a refresh. Stay late enough and experience a live DJ and hookah night.
