As any meeting planner knows, making travel arrangements can be expensive and nerve-wracking, especially when you want to ensure not only the success of your event, but the comfort of your guests. Let us alleviate some of that stress by welcoming you to the ATL Airport District via the ATL SkyTrain.
What is the ATL SkyTrain?
A fast, free train that travels along a 1.6-mile elevated guideway to safely take riders from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport directly to the Gateway Center Campus, which is home to the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC), in just two minutes. If you are reserving rental cars, the ATL SkyTrain can also quickly and easily get you from the terminal to the Rental Car Center (RCC) within 5 minutes on its second and final stop.
Also accessible on campus from the train's first stop are six convention-adjacent hotels with great amenities, the Historic College Park Golf Course, and the Gateway Center Arena - home of the Atlanta Dream, LOVB Atlanta Volleyball and the College Park Skyhawks.
🕓 When does it run?
The train runs 24/7 on a loop, circulating every 5 minutes in peak times and every 10 minutes during non-peak hours (11:00 PM - 4:00 AM). There is also a train call-button that can be used to speed up the train during non-peak times, if necessary.
🛄 How do you access the ATL SkyTrain?
Folks can find the entrance to the SkyTrain on the west side of Domestic Terminal North, near baggage claim. Simply follow the clear signage, which will guide you out of the airport and across a covered crosswalk.
🚅 What is required to board?
Nothing at all. You don't need a ticket, a pass, or a QR code to access the train, just step right in.
Why is this beneficial to meeting planners?
The ATL SkyTrain cuts or even eliminates the cost of ground transportation for meeting planners, especially when planning your event directly on the Gateway Center Campus. Based on the size of your event, cutting this cost could save you thousands of dollars that you can reallocate toward the success of your meeting in other ways. With the SkyTrain, your attendees can enjoy an easy connection to their hotel or conference center and avoid the hassle, stress, inconveniences and possible confusion associated with ground transportations like rideshare services, shuttle buses, or rental cars.
How is the ATL SkyTrain an elevated experience?
The ATL SkyTrain provides a more sustainable transportation option, providing a “greener meeting” experience. Once you're on the ground, the entire campus is designed to be walkable, and you can even walk to several dining options on campus, or try nearby restaurants and entertainment options in Hapeville, Union City, or in convenient Downtown College Park via the Global Gateway Connector Pedestrian Bridge or Phoenix Trail.
In the past, the ATL Airport District has worked with groups to have volunteers stationed within the airport and on the train to welcome meeting attendees. As a fun example, Childcare Network had a Tom Cruise impersonator as part of their “Mission Possible” themed event on the train to entertain attendees as they arrived. If you would like your guests to enjoy a similar experience, our dedicated CVB team is happy to help arrange that for you.
Let the ATL SkyTrain help you cross one major item off your planning to-do list, with the added bonus of crossing off a budget item for ground transportation during your stay in the ATL Airport District.
