East Point and the Aerotropolis Atlanta Community Improvement Districts cut the ribbon Aug. 6 on a Camp Creek Marketplace roundabout.

According to a news release, the project design converted a two-way stop at Marketplace Boulevard and Shelby Lane into a roundabout to increase the flow of traffic, increase safety and reduce delays.

Its design began in June 2017 and continued through March 2018, the release stated, at a cost of $51,000.

Construction began June 18.

The CIDs and the city each paid half of about $360,000 in construction costs.

Further traffic improvements are coming in the spring of 2020 to install a traffic signal upgrade at North Commerce Drive and Redwine Road.

The CIDs’ Airport West arm is planning the landscaping of an upcoming intersection, with a potential contract with Fulton County slated for the commission meeting agenda Aug. 15.

About $1.5 million is needed for enhancements to a diverging diamond interchange at 1-285 and Camp Creek Parkway, a $10 million Georgia Department of Transportation project slated to start in the fall.

The district’s share is $216,270 for design.

If the memorandum of understanding is approved, the county and the cities of College Park and East Point each will pay about $393,000 to install landscaping, fencing and lighting enhancements, according to a county document.

According to the Atlanta Regional Commission, the DDI will add extra lanes to the interchange.

GDOT construction project information states most of the work will be done at night with no lane closures on Camp Creek during the day and some lane closures on I-285 after 9 p.m.

The existing bridge will be maintained but lifted in height and widened.
